The location is Times Square, Manhattan, New York: link. The intersection of 7th Avenue, Broadway, and West 42nd Street. Like the Westminster Bridge in London with the Big Ben, this is one of the most photographed corners of New York. There are 23 victims: 22 wounded and one woman died (18). The woman was identified as Alyssa Elsman, a resident of Portage, Michigan.
The driver drove into pedestrians in Times Square with a dark red Honda Accord (from 2009). It started with him driving on the opposite side of the road, the wrong way on 7th Avenue (7th Avenue is a One Way street). Around 11.45am (local time), he drove into the sidewalk of the West-side of 7th Avenue, at West 42nd Street (near Thomson Reuters), continuing on the sidewalk of 7th Avenue untill 45th Street. Many pedestrians were hit. The car finally got stopped on the North-West corner of 45th Street (photo).
There are no signs this was a terrorist attack. The driver was Richard Rojas (26) from the Bronx. He was taken into custody at the scene. He is a USA citizen en former navy officer. Richard Rojas was taken into a police car with number plate 222.
Even though there are no reasons to think this is a terrorist attack, there will be extra security measures in New York now.
Just 15 minutes before, the 18 year old victim Alyssa Elsman (6 July 1998) posted her last post on Instagram (above, photo left). She filmed herself at the red stairs at the centre of Times Square (Father Duffy Sqaure). A few minutes later Richard Rojas drives his route. It was the second time Alyssa Elsman visited New York.
The odd thing is, like on the Westminster Bridge attack, many of the victims we see with bare feet. What about that? It is May 18, almost summer, but not everyone loses their shoes when running away from traffic. And on the picture of Alyssa Elsman we can see, the average person on the street in Times Square is not wearing summer clothes to the extend the victms are wearing them (like it is a very hot day).
What happened here?
ps. In a 2016 Nespresso add, George Clooney sips coffee in a bar, while reading the Times paper, on the page of the Crosswords & Mindgames of June 16, 2016.
pps. Times Square is named after newspaper the Times, but on New Years Eve it shows one of the most filmed clocks in the world, as it counts down towards the next year.
ppps. Times Square is actually not shaped as a square. It is shaped like a bow tie, with 7th Avenue and Broadway coming together at 45th Street. The accident thus started at the origin of Times Square, at the Times Building on Times Square 1, but ended at the centre of Times Square “the bow tie knot”.
pppps. The Dutch witnesses from the attacks in Paris (Bataclan concert), also visited accidentally Times Square two years before the terorrist attacks in Paris. More precisely, they made a picture -similar to Alyssa Elsman- on Father Duffy Square. It is their most wellknown picture from New York. They too stood in front of the red stairs, looking towards the South.
On both pictures, we see the statue of George M. Cohan from the back. It could be a coincidence, as most tourists visit this location in New York and take a picture. The bizar thing is, the similarities in perspective. In both case the victims are photogtaphed from the back, while looking towards the South. In fact, in both pictures, the to-be victims are facing the corner where the red Honda Accord finally crashed and came to a stop on May 18 2017. Also note, how three police cars are driving after eachother towards the area where the disaster is about to strike (picture Elsman).
ppppps. Lions. On the Westminster Bridge, there is a statue of a Lion, overlooking the bridge. That’s where the attack took place on March 22 2017 in London. On April 7, a car drove into a shopping street in Stockholm. In that shopping street (Queen street), statues of Lions are applied to block the way for motorized traffic (it is a pedestrian area in Stockholm). Now, on May 18 2017, a car drives through a pedestrian area in New York. It comes to a stop on the corner of the Minskoff theatre, a theatre where Lion King is performed. Again, a huge lion overviews the site of a major incident.
Three times in a row a lion present. Three times in a row a reference to royalty (Westminster Palace; the street names in Stockholm; and the Lion King). It might be a coincidence, but with all the crazy going on in these times….
