After dinner, they planned to go back to an apartment Dodi Al-Fayed owns in Paris. For some reason they wanted to get rid off the paparazzi, even though some of the paparazzi might have guessed already they would go to the Al-Fayed apartment on Rue Arsene-Houssaye. They send out their regular driver first, in the hope the paparazzi would follow him, so they could drive home quietly.
These are supposedly their last pictures. The first picture on the right, are Diana en Dodi wearing the clothes they were wearing that night, sitting together in the car. It is them.
The next two pictures tell the story of how they were being chased by the paparazzi. The third picture is a close-up. The two pictures suggest, how bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones is slightly worried. He is adjusting the suncreen for some reason. Driver Henri Paul has white light reflected on his glasses, we can hardly see his eyes.
In the back, Diana is turned around backwards, as if she wants to see who is chasing her this time. Next to her, Dodi Al-Fayed, it seems he is making himself small behind the driver Henri Paul. These two pictures show the story of what we are told.
What do we really see and think we know for certain? Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones is in the car, not wearing a seatbelt. This is normal for bodyguards, as they need to move quickly when their client is in need of something.
Henri Paul is likely blinded by white light, that is coming from the front! (not cars / photographers chasing them). Diana seems more worried about paparazzi chasing them behind the car. This is not ncessarily inconsistent, yet still possible. The driver mirror is positioned towards Henri Paul, but I am not convinced it is well-positioned towards him. Did he properly adjust it?
To me, these two pictures seem a bit over the top. Moreover, as they intended to leave the papparazi behind them (send out the regular car; left at the back entrance; drive fast; take a long route home…) it is unlikely they had cars in front of them being able to make this picture. The picture is not low quality, so likely not taken from a driving vehicle. So when and where would the picture be taken? It suggests a car in motion, with paparazzi in front of them and behind them. Notice: We can not see the faces of lady Diana nor Dodi Al-Fayed. Both of them maintain exactly in the same sitting position in the two pictures, which is a bit unnatural. These people might as well have been doubles for all we know.
The next two pictures are when they just got in the car. We see a white tissuebox in the back of the car, so both pictures are very likely taken at the same time/location. To the left, this is clearly Dodi Al-Fayed. With Diana, I am not sure, as her hair around the ear looks different and I do not see her earrings. The woman in the two pictures below, left and right, is the same woman. I wish I could be certain it was Diana, but I am not. Moreover, in the picture right (it is enhanced in colour), we see a reflection of a man in the car window. His hair, posture, and clothes look similar to Dodi Al-Fayed.
So far, I am not convinced that the two people, who drove off in the backseat of the Mercedes, are Dodi Al-Fayed and lady Diana. I do believe these are Henri Paul and Trevor Rees-Jones. For the passengers in the backseat, for now, I want to keep options open.
