On February 14th Finn Nørgaard was killed in a terrorist attack in Copenhagen. To me he seems just an innocent bystander, who was just present at a debat about Free Speech. RIP Finn Norgaard.
The debat ‘Art, blasphemy and the freedom of expression’ was organized by (Swedish) Lars Vilks in Danish Copenhagen. The location was the Krudttønden cafe, a former stables transformed into a cultural centre by the Municipality of Copenhagen in 1990. Organizer Lars Vilks (link to Dutch and English wiki) is claimed to be the actual target of the attacker on February 14th, as he is alledegly on a death list ever since he made controversial cartoons of Mohammed in 2007.
Participants at the event included speaker Niels Ivar Larsen and organizer Helle Merete Brix. Ukrainian FEMEN (George Soros) organizer Inna Shevchenko and the French ambassador Francois Zimeray also were present at the event. Brix stated the attack was aimed at Lars Vilks.
Lars Vilks is an artist and art teacher since the 1980s. In 1980 Vilks created two wooden sculptures, Nimis and Arx, made entirely of drift wood, now located in the Kullaberg nature reserve in Höganäs, Skåne. In 1996, the small area where the sculptures are located was proclaimed by Vilks as an independent country, “Ladonia” (the micronation reminds me of the “Soevereiniteits” movement in the Netherlands). In 1997 he started working as a professor for the University of Bergen. Ever since the 2007 drawings of Mohammed, there have been several plots to assasinate Lars Vilks. None of them were succesful.
So sad. Copenhagen, the city of the famous naked little mermaid, a beautiful ferrytale written by Hans Christian Andersen. Now Copenhagen is linked to this event.
